"If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer a male without blemish. He shall bring it to the entrance of the tent of meeting, that he may be accepted before the Lord. He shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him."
Leviticus 1:3-4
The detailed system of sacrifices of the Old Testament, so carefully laid out, were intended to be a foreshadow of the one true sacrifice that truly atones for sin: the perfect sacrifice of Messiah, Himself.
“In these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.” (Hebrews 10:3-4)
The sacrifices could only point forward to Jesus. They were intended to remind us of God’s promise of a Savior who would redeem us, so that we would look forward in faith to that day.
When He finally came, Jesus, the Lamb of God, took our sin once and for all on Himself. He was both priest and sacrifice, bearing our guilt and letting the wrath of God fall on Him. No more sacrifices are needed.
Your sin has been paid for. Your guilt has been washed away in the blood of Jesus. You have been restored to the love of your Heavenly Father and are accepted as His child for Jesus’ sake.
Lord Jesus, thank You for coming to be my Savior. Take the rest of my life and use it for Your glory and for the good of man. I’ve been redeemed! Thank You, Lord. Amen!
